The Hillary Clinton Knoxville headquarters hosted an open house on Saturday, August 27. It is now officially open to the public and is located in the Knox County Democratic Party headquarters on 311 Morgan St. in downtown Knoxville.

The open house consisted of volunteers and speakers, all campaigning for Hillary Clinton. There were yard signs, buttons, bumper stickers and t-shirts for sale. They will continue selling campaign items while the headquarters is open. Louise Gorenflo, a member of the events committee, said one of the goals for the headquarters was to be a “one-stop shop” for supporters.

“Democracy is only as strong as it is practiced,” Gorenflo said. She explained how important community is for them. Without the support of locals, the headquarters would not have been opened. The headquarters hopes to encourage local supporters to become more politically active.

No political event is complete without a few protesters. Mitchell Boice and Andrew Burch stood outside of the open house with signs protesting Clinton. Boice said he wants to “alter people’s decision,” as they walk towards the headquarters. Although they have experienced a few “vicious” Clinton supporters, the majority have been respectful.

The protesters listed reasons they support Donald Trump, claiming Trump is, “not bought, and doesn’t accept currency for political gain.” They also support Trump because of his “peaceful parenting,” and the fact that “he never spanked his kids.”
